Homemade Laundry Detergent

One thing most people are surprised to find out about me is I LOVE LOVE LOVE homesteading, simplicity and all things vintage. I still don't know why people are so surprised by that (maybe because all of my younger years I was pretty high maintenance LOL and I'm ok with admitting it.)
After the birth of So and our move back to WV and the purchase of our land (turned farm) I fell in love with the Earth, nature and being at one with God and no better way of doing that than getting back to the land. So now with a herd of goats, flock of Dominique chickens, pigs and horses I think I'm finally living the life I was meant to live. It has been great for So she is so dedicated to her animals and she love caring for them! <----So that's what i warned you of occasional ramblings of a farmgirl!
So today as I was doing laundry I realized I was out of detergent what would you do? Run to Wal-Mart? I'm not partial to WalMart because they aren't for the small business (which is what America was founded upon) So with just a few supplies kept on hand you can have laundry detergent for a very small price. The best part it's almost all natural and you can't beat that!

Here's what you need
1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda--not baking soda
2 cups finely grated Fels-Naptha
1 cup Borax
Grater
Large Bowl
Mason Jar or any airtight container

All the ingredients can be found at Kroger in the laundry aisle

Here's what you do.

1.) finely grate Fels-Naptha
2.) Mix all ingredients very well
3.)Store in an airtight container I prefer a Mason Jar b/c of it's beautiful simplicity. You could also add a fabric topper and a list of directions in case you are blessed enough to have someone help with the laundry!
This recipe makes one quart of powder and you will need to use 2 tablespoon per full load of laundry!
It's super simple! However grating the Fels-Naptha could really be counted as exercise!

Happy Spring Snack Day!

Spring Snack

Every month when I check Sophie's preschool calendar I get so excited when I see her name! I love when she is snack helper because there's so many awesome kids snack ideas, and with Monday being the first day of Spring I thought we had to do something in honor of this most wonderful season of the year when everything is being made new. Spring always reminds me of how God makes all things new, and how He made me new! Thank you Jesus!
So this is what I came up with....so fun, easy & adorable but most importantly it's yummy and SoSo approved. Below I tell you how to whip up a nest full of cuteness!
What you'll need:
1 pkg butterscotch chips
1 cup Rice Krispie's
2 cups chow mein noodles
1 cup marshmellows
1 pkg of Peeps
Jelly beans or egg shaped Whoppers
wax paper
---little hand to help----

What to do:
1.) Melt the entire bag of butterscotch chips in the microwave or double boiler according to package directions.
2.) In a large bowl combine Rice Krispies, noodles and marshmellows
3.) Once the butterscotch chips are melted until smooth pour over the dry mix and coat evenly.
4.) With a large spoon place on wax paper and form into the shape of a nest. Add peeps and eggs.

Then try to resist eating them all! They are very yummy!

Me and the little farmgirl had a wonderful day both indoors and out! We planted our first cabbage heads (in containers since we'll be moving soon) ekkkkk! I can't wait to set up our new homestead! I'll be blogging all of that too! Everything from home decor to barn raising you can follow it all!

We also got to spend some time with our two babies their momma and our Mommaw. We had planned a picnic in the park but mother nature had another plan for us so we seized the opportunity and headed to Target--which always turns out to be an expensive trip but Sophie found lots of cute vintage style shirts(which I love) so better get to making new bows to match! I also finally broke down and purchased her the LaLaLoopsy Doll she has been asking for since Christmas, which I think I love as much as she does!

Many Blessings,

My take on a Bow Holder!

Tip Junkie handmade projects

Bow Holder Farmgirl Style
So bows are a necessity for all little girls and there are a few styles I've seen but non quite whimsical and farmgirl-ish for me and my gal! So this is a LeshaLu Original feel free to make one if you like they are too hard to resist! I stopped by the local thrift store on my lunch break and found two frames they are 11x13 (size doesn't really matter just whatever fits your needs) and what a bargain they were only a buck! However they where a *beautiful* gold but once again not our style! So my mind started turning and here's how it went....

What you'll need:
Frame any size preferably wooden
Staple Gun
CHICKEN WIRE(farmgirl must have and we always have plenty)
Spray Paint
Sand Paper
Wire Snips

Below is a picture before their beautiful transformation
What you need to do:
1.) remove the backing from the frame and any staples that may be left(they hurt to find them)
2.) spray paint or hand paint the frame

3.) While you let it dry Feed you chicken with your favorite farmgirl!
4.) Once your frame is dry lightly sand the edges and random areas around the frame just to make it look like it's been around for a while (you can add other watered down colors as well for a more rustic and distressed look) but that's not the look i was going for So's room.

5.) Turn the frame over and cut your chicken wire with the wire snips to fit the opening and staple to secure in place ----and that's it how easy!

This turns out so cute you'll be making them for every bow lover you know!
FYI- Crafty sister & I made all the bows during one of our many craft-overs!
If you happen to make one email me a picture and I'll post it on the blog!

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to Lesha Lu's confessions of a copycat crafter and the occasional ramblings of a farmgirl at heart! I'm a lover of all things handmade, and if I see an idea that I love I just can't wait to see how I can make it my very own creation. They say copying is the highest form of flattery and that's how I feel as well. So feel free to adapt any of my ideas into your own creations so they best suit you.... Of course tons of pictures will be in this blog! The picture above is of my blessing, and the flower headband she's sporting....yeap it's made by Momma!

Many Blessings,

Lesha Lu
